Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC)
The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC), mandated under the University Grants Commission through the UGC (Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2012, is established in universities and colleges to ensure an inclusive and non-discriminatory academic environment for students belonging to socially disadvantaged groups, particularly Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), minorities, and persons with disabilities. The primary objective of the EOC is to safeguard these groups against discrimination in admission, evaluation, and campus life, while promoting equal access to academic and support services.
It functions by monitoring institutional policies, addressing grievances related to discrimination, spreading awareness about constitutional rights, and facilitating welfare measures such as scholarships and academic support programs. Through these mechanisms, the Equal Opportunity Cell plays a crucial role in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusiveness within higher education institutions in India.
