Bachelor of Physiotherapy

Introduction

BPT is an undergraduate programme in which students learn to deal with the physical movement of the body aiming to cure disorders of the candidates. During the four year course, a candidate develops an understanding of the human body on the basis of medical science. Whereas during the training period of six months, candidates will gain practical knowledge. After completing Bachelor's in Physiotherapy, students will have many career opportunities. Physiotherapy has achieved a professional status and physiotherapists are required everywhere.

Programme Duration
5 years (4 years academic + 1 year compulsory internship).
Programme Eligibility
10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology. (minimum age for admission is 17 years)
Minimum Marks
50% aggregate
Selection Procedure
NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) mandatory.

Annual Pattern
  1. 4 years [38 weeks per year x 6 days per week x 6 hrs. per day minimum) academic training, excluding internal and University examination, extracurricular activities, Public Holidays and Vacations
  2. Commencement of new session should be before 1st september
  3. Candidates having a break of study of five years and above from the date of admission and more than two spells of break will not be considered for readmission. The candidates having a break of study of up to five years shall apply for readmission to the appropriate authority of the University. The candidates shall be granted exemption in the subjects they have already passed
  4. Migration/transfers of candidates up to second year is allowed between government college to government college. For private colleges Migration/transfers shall be done as per the norms of the concerned University.

Teaching Methods
Foundation courses, simulation labs, clinical case-based learning, self-directed learning.
Attendance Requirement
Minimum 75% in theory, 85% in practical/clinical postings
Internship
  • 12 months compulsory after completion of coursework.
  • During the period of internships, stipend amount must be paid to the students by the institute as prescribed by the State Council.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) program is mandatory for every student during the one year of internship. The concerned institute shall be responsible for organizing the BLS program to be guided by certified instructors for their students.
  • Internship Evaluation: Skill-based evaluation during postings.
  • Skill Competency-Based Curriculum: Emphasis on independent clinical practice, communication skills, leadership, ethics, lifelong learning.
  • College Requirements: Infrastructure, clinical affiliations, faculty standards must match Annexure-2 guidelines.
